Jesse Itzler - Entrepreneur/Author/Endurance Athlete - Building Life's Resume - Episode 100

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone

Episode 100 - Jesse Itlzer – Entrepreneur/Author/Endurance Athlete

New York Times Best-Selling Author, Living With a Seal & Living With Monks

Owner, NBA Atlanta Hawks

Cofounder, Marquis Jets & Former Partner, Zico Coconut Water

“Get your feet in the door and then figure it out! Ride the momentum!”

“Welcome the unknown and learn from it!”  -Jesse Itzler

Happy 100th Episode/Birthday/Anniversary! We f’ing made it!

In this episode, the Two Fit Crazies go BIG as they welcome the AMAZING Jesse Itzler! Jesse joins the best “party” in the world to shed some light on how to build your “life’s resume.” Through Jesse’s ability to think BACKWARDS, he then was able to “write the end of the movie...but then you just have to write the script.” This seemed to work for Jesse Itzler since he first made a name for himself as a rapper on MTV in the 1990’s. Since then, Jesse went on to write the theme song for the New York Knicks, found Marquis Jets, own Zico Coconut Water, and even own the Atlanta Hawks. Although Jesse’s “life resume” is super impressive, Jesse is someone who “walks the walk.” He is a true giver and believes in the power of relationships, but he also believes that, at the end of the day, we all want the same thing: “we want to feel good!”

In this episode, Jesse shares his insight on the importance of fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness as it relates to happiness and success. Even after living with David Goggins for a month and then living with monks, Jesse continues to crave new experiences. He has created events, or “Experiences,” for others to quit the mundane and invest in themselves. Climb mountains, camp in the wilderness, and BUILD THAT LIFE RESUME!  Hear more from the AWESOME Jesse Itzler and find out about how to register for an upcoming event or workshop on Episode 100!

Former NYC Firefighter

The Long Run, Author

Motivational Speaker, WME Speakers

ATHLETE-SURVIVOR- SPEAKER

“Why did it happen...and why did I live?”

“...Turn your burners on and fire-up the human spirit!”

-Matt Long

In Episode 99, the Two Fit Crazies are left speechless from the most amazingly inspirational story of one man’s battle for survival after being hit by a 40-ton bus on the streets of New York City at 5:30AM on December 22nd, 2005. With a 1% chance for survival even after receiving over 68 units of blood, Matt Long was not about to give up. As a NYC firefighter, triathlete, marathoner, and IRONMAN at the time of the accident, Matt discusses how his elite fitness level “literally” saved his life. Although Matt champions an “I WILL” attitude, he also shares what it was like to wish his mother had prayed for him to die instead of having to endure the slow and painful process of rehabilitating a body that was practically sliced in two. Unbelievably, Matt not only survived the day he and his bicycle were crushed beneath the 10” space between a charter bus and the asphalt, but also recalls the mental journey to recovery! After more than 40 operations and years of rehabilitation, Matt has since returned to the New York City Marathon, IRONMAN Lake Placid, cycling, and even holds 8 world records for the indoor rower! Matt also discuss his inspirational book, The Long Run, as well as his love for public speaking engagements and why he decided to be a franchisee for Orangetheory Fitness. Prepare to be inspired!

Roberta Groner - World Class Runner/Full Time Nurse/Mother of Three - Episode 96

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone Podcast

Episode 96 – Roberta Groner – World Class Runner – Full Time Nurse – Mother of 3

In Episode 96 the Fit Crazies have the honor of rapping with the ridiculously fast and remarkably humble Super Mom, Roberta Groner, age 41, of Randolph, NJ. Literally, just 2 hours off the plane home, Roberta gives us the low down on her phenomenal, news making 2:29:06, 5th place performance against a world class field at the Rotterdam Marathon.

To put it simply, Roberta has a story for the ages. After competitive high school and, albeit shortened, collegiate careers, running went away. Roberta spent the next decade building her career in nursing and starting a family. But a flame was rekindled after joining some office cohorts and running the Pittsburg Half Marathon just 10 years ago. This led to a marathon in Chicago and an impressive 3-hour 12-minute (3:12) debut. But she was just getting started, a Sub 3 hour run in her second marathon was followed by races in the 2:40’s and then a true burst onto the scene with her 2:37 victory at the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon in 2016. Just Flying!!!!

All of this, along with a 2:30:38, 3rd place finish at the California International Marathon in 2017 has stamped Roberta’s place among the nation’s and world’s elites.

In fact, we’d bet that if the 41-year-old, full time nurse, divorced mother of three had rubbed a lamp and was granted running wishes, Roberta probably would have sold herself short in what she wished for.

What’s it like to run a 2:29 and an IAAF/Olympic Standard?

At 41 years of age, while still working full time and a divorced mother of three, how does she fit it all in?

What are the differences in training blocks as she continues to grow as a runner?

What is it like working with a new coach in Steve Magness?

Do her boys know how cool their mom is?

What are her nutrition and recovery routines like?

What is her advice for and/or secret to success?

And most importantly; What’s Next???? #KFG

Whatever your role in athletics or fitness or life, Roberta’s story is not to be missed!

Get Your Inspiration Here, In Episode 96!

Bart Yasso - The Mayor of Running - Episode 81

Two Fit Crazies and a Microphone

Episode 81 – Bart Yasso - The Mayor of Running

“Never limit where running can take you.” Bart Yasso

In Episode 81, the Two Fit Crazies had the honor of speaking with the great Bart Yasso. Affectionately known as the “Mayor of Running”, Bart goes deep into his journey and life in running. Recently retired after 21 years at Runner’s World where he held the title of Chief Running Officer, Bart takes us from his first run in “cutoff jeans and a Budweiser t-shirt” to the “world’s toughest footrace” through Death Valley to a 5k in a nudist colony. And an interview with Bart would never be complete without getting the lowdown on the famous workout created by and named for him – the Yasso 800s, stating that “There isn’t a day that someone doesn’t mention Yasso 800’s.”

Bart is an incredibly genuine person with a passion for running and life. It felt like we were old friends catching up after some time apart. An inspiration to all that cross his path, we hope that you enjoy this episode as much as we did.

Yours in Fitness (and running),

Peace on Earth Goodwill Towards Men (Except for the Self Proclaimed Guru) - The TFCs Navigate the Holidays - Episode 70

Episode 70

Peace on Earth Goodwill Towards Men (Except for the Self-Proclaimed Gurus) - The TFCs Navigate the Holidays

“Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”

-John Wooden

In Episode 70, the Two Fit Crazies will help you face the Bermuda Triangle of Holidays. This is what Brian refers to as the time between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. Stress levels are high, diets suffer, workouts are set aside, money is tight, sleep is at a minimum, and there is NEVER enough time in the day to get everything done. The holidays are supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, right?

On top of that, everywhere you look there are self-proclaimed “gurus” and “experts” on television, social media, and more that make unsubstantiated promises that have all the answers, so you can live YOUR BEST LIFE. They seem to have “it” all figured out. Do this. Eat and drink that. Buy this. In actuality, no one has it all figured out….and that’s okay! Christine and Brian offer their advice on how to identify and avoid being duped by false claims and how to embrace things, people, and ideas in life that brings you joy! There is not ONE thing in life that will solve all of your problems. Take a little something from everyone out there, and if you don’t believe us, go read some quotes from John Wooden!

Peace, Love, and Joy…to almost everyone!

and

B.      Joining a gym or having a trainer and/or coach “is too expensive.”

In Episode 63, Brian and Christine discuss solutions for making this work. In addition, they discuss the reasons why the industry standards for trainers and coaches are as such and the reasons why clients should seek only the best.

Dr. Jason Karp also stresses the importance for all trainers, coaches, and running enthusiasts alike to learn the science and physiology behind designing the most efficient workouts. He harps on the fact that one must poses extensive knowledge of VO2Max, stroke volume, cardiac output, running form, etc.. to design or complete a running program that will produce the optimal results.

The Two Fit Crazies also get into it with Dr. Karp about his theory that strength training has no scientifically proven benefits in improving running. Dr. Karp expounds on how performing sports specific training methods is the only true way to reach your specific running goals and why his training methods work!  Whether you are a running enthusiast, a trainer, a coach, or simply someone who wants to improve their fitness, check out Episode 61!

What's Holding You Back? - Episode 58

On Episode 58 of the Two Fit Crazies and a Microphone Podcast, Brian and Christine recap an awesome Episode 57 with the great fellas from Pure Focus Sports Club. What a great time that Episode was. Old school gym owners discussing the ins and out of power lifting and body building! It’s a classic!

From there they lead into their topic du jour. “What’s Holding You Back?” It’s an interesting topic in that it is something that we hear often and know all too well.

I/You/We know that I/you/we should be doing something differently, but just don’t always do that thing that I/you/we know that we should be doing. Something is holding you back from doing what must be done.

So, What Is It? What Is Holding You Back?

The answer is yours. It’s personal. If we were playing Family Feud, the most common answer on the board would Fear. Fear runs deep and wears many hats. Fear can be associated with danger. Fear is anxiety. Fear is uncertainty. Fear is societal pressures or judgement. Fear can be monetary. For all to many, fear is most often connected to failure. Fear of Failure is a gigantic deterrent to many. All of this is enough for many to do the worst thing, which is nothing.

Making Changes in life, career, relationships, diet, activity, lifestyle, performance, etc. is rarely done on a whim. Conclusions are made long before action is taken. We know what needs to be done. In Episode 58, the Two Fit Crazies ask you to dig deep any proclaim that “thing” that is getting in the way of you and your next stage of living your best life. Again, the answers are yours. But know that there is gold on the other side of doing what you know is best.

So, what is it? What is holding you back?
