All Hail Roberta Groner, All American Bad Ass! - Episode 125

Two Fit Crazies and a Microphone Podcast

Episode 125 – Pop-Up Podcast – All Hail Roberta Groner, All American Bad Ass!

The Two Fit Crazies were so moved by the performance of American distance runner, friend and past guest of the show, Roberta Groner at the 2019 IAAF World Championships Women’s Marathon that they got together for a Pop-Up podcast to praise her in all her greatness.

Being held in Doha, Qatar, the World Championships provided the ultimate backdrop for the Full Time Nurse, mother of 3, 41-year-old, blue color All American/All World Bad Ass to show the world her amazingness and toughness. With temperatures in the 90’s, “feels like” temps in the 100’s with 70% humidity, Roberta persevered the elements, running patiently, working her way to a 2:38:44 6th place finish.

That’s Right! 6th IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!

After a performance so amazing that it brought us to tears, the Two Fit Crazies just had to stop and pay homage to Roberta on her incredible performance, in unbearable conditions, on the World’s biggest stage. ALL HAIL ROBERTA GRONER – ALL AMERICAN/ALL WORLD BAD ASS!!!!!!!!

#KFG Roberta!

Episode 122 - Joel Matalon - RUNhabX- Owner, JoeFitnessWorld Coaching-Training-Living, CEO Chi Running/Chi Walking, Master & Director of Continuing Education ACE, Faculty Member

“Run happy instead of running hard...run with feeling...moving in all planes …to be a better person in any situation…” -Joel Matalon

In Episode 122, the Two Fit Crazies enjoyed an awesome conversation with Chi Running master, Joel Matalon. Joel is fascinated with the “WHY” behind running. As a young scrawny boy (his words, not ours) growing up in Queens, Joel recalls some very vivid memories about how running saved him from getting beat up by gang members and even enduring abuse by an unsuspecting adult figure in his life. However, Joel also shares the fact that he really didn’t start running until his dad promised him a soda if he ran around the block five times. Let’s just say that Joel REALLY liked soda and his dad always kept his promise! Joel discusses the ways in which he is now able to share his passion for running throughout the U.S. as a Master Chi Running/Walking Educator and how his expertise and experience is coveted by many who wish to hire him as a running coach. Presenting at major conferences around the world is in Joel’s plans as well as launching his newest venture called, The FitNantial Group. Joel is determined to help fellow fitness professionals control their fitness and finances to ensure they are making the best investments for their future!

Sheera Goren, Co-Founder & CEO of Zygo - Episode 109

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone

Episode 109 - Sheera Goren, Co-Founder & CEO of ZYGO

“...be SWIMSPIRED!”

“...I wanted to create the Peloton of swimming!”

“...we are dealing with a passionate population.”  -Sheera Goren

In Episode 109, the Two Fit Crazies are WOWED by Sheera Goren, the co-founder and CEO of Zygo, the first wireless headset for underwater streaming audio and live coaching. Whether you are a swimmer or non-swimmer, Zygo is going to revolutionize all water sports with its ability to transmit sound through a specific frequency that penetrates water. Swim coaches can instruct swimmers mid-stroke while surfers, stand-up paddle boarders, crew teams, can receive real-time coaching. Sheera reveals how her past experiences playing soccer at the University of Michigan, attending law school at UCLA, and working in the world of hospitality law all lead her to the creation of Zygo. As a non-swimmer who wanted to dabble in the world of triathlon, like Fit Crazie Christine, she was lost when it came to finding the right training groups to learn to swim. Sheera talked about how she created her own swim groups rather than attend intimidating Masters groups or take water aerobics classes with “older” populations. She further explains how she wanted to create “the Peloton for swimming” with Zygo and give people the ability to listen to podcasts and music as well as receive live and recorded coaching. In this episode, the Two Fit Crazies go BIG as they welcome the AMAZING Jesse Itzler! Jesse joins the best “party” in the world to shed some light on how to build your “life’s resume.” Through Jesse’s ability to think BACKWARDS, he then was able to “write the end of the movie...but then you just have to write the script.” This seemed to work for Jesse Itzler since he first made a name for himself as a rapper on MTV in the 1990’s. Since then, Jesse went on to write the theme song for the New York Knicks, found Marquis Jets, own Zico Coconut Water, and even own the Atlanta Hawks. In this episode, Jesse shares his insight on the importance of fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness as it relates to happiness and success. “Why did it happen...and why did I live?”

“...Turn your burners on and fire-up the human spirit!”

-Matt Long

In Episode 99, the Two Fit Crazies are left speechless from the most amazingly inspirational story of one man’s battle for survival after being hit by a 40-ton bus on the streets of New York City at 5:30AM on December 22nd, 2005. With a 1% chance for survival even after receiving over 68 units of blood, Matt Long was not about to give up. As a NYC firefighter, triathlete, marathoner, and IRONMAN at the time of the accident, Matt discusses how his elite fitness level “literally” saved his life. Although Matt champions an “I WILL” attitude, he also shares what it was like to wish his mother had prayed for him to die instead of having to endure the slow and painful process of rehabilitating a body that was practically sliced in two. Unbelievably, Matt not only survived the day he and his bicycle were crushed beneath the 10” space between a charter bus and the asphalt, but also recalls the mental journey to recovery! After more than 40 operations and years of rehabilitation, Matt has since returned to the New York City Marathon, IRONMAN Lake Placid, cycling, and even holds 8 world records for the indoor rower! Matt also discuss his inspirational book, The Long Run, as well as his love for public speaking engagements and why he decided to be a franchisee for Orangetheory Fitness. Prepare to be inspired!

Roberta Groner - World Class Runner/Full Time Nurse/Mother of Three - Episode 96

Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone Podcast

Episode 96 – Roberta Groner – World Class Runner – Full Time Nurse – Mother of 3

In Episode 96 the Fit Crazies have the honor of rapping with the ridiculously fast and remarkably humble Super Mom, Roberta Groner, age 41, of Randolph, NJ. Literally, just 2 hours off the plane home, Roberta gives us the low down on her phenomenal, news making 2:29:06, 5th place performance against a world class field at the Rotterdam Marathon.

To put it simply, Roberta has a story for the ages. After competitive high school and, albeit shortened, collegiate careers, running went away. Roberta spent the next decade building her career in nursing and starting a family. But a flame was rekindled after joining some office cohorts and running the Pittsburg Half Marathon just 10 years ago. This led to a marathon in Chicago and an impressive 3-hour 12-minute (3:12) debut. But she was just getting started, a Sub 3 hour run in her second marathon was followed by races in the 2:40’s and then a true burst onto the scene with her 2:37 victory at the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon in 2016. Just Flying!!!!

All of this, along with a 2:30:38, 3rd place finish at the California International Marathon in 2017 has stamped Roberta’s place among the nation’s and world’s elites.

In fact, we’d bet that if the 41-year-old, full time nurse, divorced mother of three had rubbed a lamp and was granted running wishes, Roberta probably would have sold herself short in what she wished for.

What’s it like to run a 2:29 and an IAAF/Olympic Standard?

At 41 years of age, while still working full time and a divorced mother of three, how does she fit it all in?

What are the differences in training blocks as she continues to grow as a runner?

What is it like working with a new coach in Steve Magness?

Do her boys know how cool their mom is?

What are her nutrition and recovery routines like?

What is her advice for and/or secret to success?

And most importantly; What’s Next???? #KFG

Whatever your role in athletics or fitness or life, Roberta’s story is not to be missed!
